After putting on their first event of the year last weekend, Colosseum Combat returns just seven weeks later, as Colosseum Combat XXXVIII goes down next month in Kokomo, Indiana.
Promoter Mark Slater has been busy putting together the card, and matchups are starting to be announced for the event.
In the headliner that was announced a few weeks ago, Keith Smetana (10-5) is set to defend his middleweight title against Muhammad Abdullah (8-3). Smetana has won four of his last five bouts, and he won the CC title with a 59-second knockout over Tony Parker at CC XXXVI last August that was nominated for Pro Knockout of the Year. He’s currently ranked as the No. 7 pro middleweight in the BluegrassMMA Rankings.
Abdullah looks to bounce back from a loss, as he had a two-fight winning streak snapped in his last outing when he was submitted by Tim Williams at XCC 26 in November. The Ohio native has posted three wins via TKO in his career. He’s ranked as the No. 9 pro middleweight in the BluegrassMMA Rankings.
In an intriguing co-main event, Bobby Emmons (5-6) will return from a short-lived retirement to take on Cameron VanCamp (6-3-1) in a winner-take-all lightweight battle, meaning the loser of the bout will leave without a paycheck. Emmons announced his retirement after a first round submission over Kendrick Terry last year at a Tru-Form Entertainment event, but he will return 13 months later.
VanCamp has won four of his last five bouts, including a TKO over Randy Jones at Hardrock MMA 85 in November.
Other pro bouts feature bantamweights Jeremy Pender (12-12) vs. Justin King (6-4), and David Stephens (0-0) vs. Josh Streacker (0-1).
