Lineup set for sold out Midwest Fight Series XIV in Indiana

Midwest Fight Series XIV

Midwest Fight Series XIV

Midwest Fight Series XIV is set to go down this weekend, as MFS returns to the Hoosier Park Racing Casino in Anderson, Indiana just outside of Indianapolis this weekend for the second time.

The fight card features a total of 14 bouts, including six pro offerings and an amateur title fight. And according to a post on the event’s Facebook page, all 1,200 seats in the venue are sold out.

In the main event, local favorite Bryant Whittaker (7-2) will put his six-fight winning streak on the line when he faces Arkansas native Thomas Gifford (9-6) at lightweight.

Whittaker only competed once last year, earning a unanimous decision over Alexander Trevino at MFL 39 in October. The 25-year-old has earned five of his seven victories via stoppage and has gone on a nice streak since starting his career 1-2. Whittaker is currently ranked No. 7 in the BluegrassMMA Pro Lightweight Rankings.

Gifford is a Legacy FC veteran who will compete for the first time since knocking out Wade Johnson with a knee at Legacy FC 34 in August 2014.

In the co-main event, Austin Tweedy (7-1) looks for his fifth straight win as he takes on UFC veteran Jason Gilliam (13-8) at welterweight.

Tweedy has earned all seven of his wins via stoppage, including six in the first round. Most recently, he submitted Brandon Jenkins via rear naked choke at MFS XIII last September. Tweedy is currently the No. 4 ranked pro welterweight in the BluegrassMMA Pro Rankings.

The 43-year-old Gilliam competed twice in the UFC in 2007, losing to both Jamie Varner and Chris Lytle. He looks to snap a six-fight losing streak here, as he most recently dropped a bout to Dan Stittgen last September.

In another intriguing bout, 54-year-old Joe Kielur (11-1) will take on Alex Rozman (14-22) in a heavyweight contest. Kielur, who is also a chiropractor in the Indianapolis area, last competed in 2014, when he stopped Jay Miller with a submission due to strikes in just 25 seconds. Rozman is also coming off of a win at a Driller Promotions event last May.
