Jeremy Pender loses to Joey Gomez on short notice fight

Jeremy Pender vs. Joey Gomez at ECFC 2

Before we get into the fight, we would like to tip our hats to Jeremy Pender. With only a nine-day notice, Pender accepted the challenge to square off against undefeated fighter Joey Gomez.

Their main event bout lasted less than two minutes when, according to Mass MMA, “Joey lands a thunderous right hand that floors Jeremy.” Author Billy Rondan then went on to say, “Joey follows up with crazy fast ground and pound.” As stated by Rondon, the referee had seen enough up until this point and called a stop in the action. After the fight initially came to a stop, Pender protested the stoppage to the referee but at this point it was too late.

During the post-fight interview, it was stated by an official with East Coast Fighting Championship that Gomez was respectful towards Pender. Also during the course of the post-fight discussion, he officially retired his nickname “War Machine” stating “It’s never all right to hit a woman!!!”

With the win, Gomez improved his record to an impressive 5-0 and earned the win bonus of $5,000. The bantamweight fighter has now registered five first-round finishes.

Pender is scheduled to meet Manny Vazquez at Turf Wars 21 which is just three weeks away. It is not known at this time if Pender will be suspended, and if so for how long. Hopefully, given that he was protesting the fight immediately afterwards that no significant damage was sustained.

UPDATE: Spoke with Pender and he did clarify that a suspension was not handed out.
