Jones was scheduled to continue his amateur career but after his original opponent became unavailable, the situation changed.
“Life is funny and opportunities are given when needed not asked for. Last Thursday I was informed my opponent broke his hand. I was devastated thought I was just going to get the he can’t make weight talk. Anyways I was down but I was offered a opportunity to still fight. It would’ve been my 16th amateur fight in 7 years. I trained for this fight the last four months so there was no way I wasn’t going to fight April 14th in bowling green. In saying that I will be making my pro debut that night against a game opponent. Clean slate new adventure!”
Itunin will be looking to secure his first professional win after a pair of disappointing losses. Both he and Jones had an extensive amateur career. Itunin was a staple in Ohio, making his amateur debut back in 2010. He had won three of his last four before turning pro in 2015. His last fight was earlier this year, a first round TKO loss.
Jones made his debut in 2011 with a memorable decision win in Bowling Green. He submitted Ryan Driskill at Hardrock MMA 94 back in November.
Hardrock MMA 98 takes place this Saturday at the Sloan Convention Center. Tickets are on sale at HardrockMMA.com and will be available at the door. Stay close to BluegrassMMA for more on the event.
