Ohio Valley products Chris Curtis and Austin Tweedy are set to compete on the upcoming second season of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, BluegrassMMA has learned. MMA-Today first reported the bouts for both fighters, as the second season of the prospect-driven series will begin in June and air on UFC Fight Pass.
CES MMA welterweight champion Curtis (18-5) will finally get a crack at a UFC contract, as he will face Sean Lally (7-2) during week one of season two on June 12. “The Action Man” is a Cincinnati native, but he now trains out of Temecula, California with Team Quest. He’s won eight of his last nine bouts, with the lone loss coming via split decision against UFC veteran Nah-Shon Burrell. The 30-year-old has 7 wins via (T)KO and 2 via submission, including five straight wins. He’s also claimed titles under the Premier MMA Championship and Fight Night Medicine Hat banners, and he competed on Bellator MMA’s “Fight Master” reality series.
Tweedy (10-1) trains out of the Indianapolis area where he represents American Top Team Indianapolis. He will face The MMA Lab’s Te Edwards (5-1) during week 3 on June 26. Tweedy has produced nine wins via submission and one via knockout, and has notable wins over UFC veteran Jason Gilliam and “Ultimate Fighter” veteran Daniel Head. The MFS champion most recently competed at ECC: Spring Submissions last April, where he submitted veteran Jay Ellis in just 23 seconds.
