Alliance MMA invades the Arnold Class Festival tonight with it’s inaugural event. The card features 12 fights including 9 professional and 3 amateur bouts. Headlining the event is a lightweight contest between Devonte Smith (6-1) and UFC veteran and two-time Ultimate Fighter alum Justin Edwards (10-5).
“King Cage” Devonte Smith is coming off the biggest win of this career. He traveled into enemy territory when he finished off Nick Gherts to capture the Alliance MMA owned IT Fight Series and V3Fights professional lightweight titles. The two promotional champion now faces one of if not toughest opponents to date.
The veteran Edwards has not stepped foot inside the cage since leaving The Ultimate Fighter show last February. In his second fight on Season 25: Redemption, Edwards was submitted in the first round with a rear-naked choke by Tom Gallicchio. With ten fights under the UFC banner, the Jorge Gurgel product is one of the more experienced fighters in the Ohio Valley region.
Espinosa returns to the cage in Ohio for the fourth time in his professional career. The Albuquerque resident spent the majority of his career living in northwest Ohio before returning to New Mexico recently. Since winning his match-up against Nick Urso on the seventh episode of the Contender Series Espinosa has remained absent from the cage. Before competing on the reality series, Espinosa won six of his previous seven bouts.
Standing opposite him Saturday night is Hamilton who came up short on his match-up on the second episode of the Contender Series. Hamilton went the distance with Casey Kenney but came out on the losing end. Before his bout with Kenney, Hamilton was riding a six-fight winning streak that included wins under the top regional promotions LFA, Legacy FC, and Titan FC banners.
Steele comes into this fight with only one loss on his professional record. In his last outing, he finished Oliver Vadnais in the second round at IT Fight Series 73.Looking to build upon his recent success, Steele is ready for his match-up with Petty. “I have never felt so sure about my life at this point,” Steele shared. “Super excited to compete for you all next Saturday!”
Making the trip from Missouri, Petty comes to Ohio for the first time in his career. The welterweight came up short in his last outing, suffering a first-round submission loss to undefeated Calen Born in the co-main event at Shamrock FC 294. Before that match-up, Petty won three of his last four fights.
Also competing on the card is a middleweight contest between local favorite Travis Davis (5-1) and Jesse Murray (5-2). Fan favorite Alfred Leisure (5-1) will take on Tray Taylor (5-5) in a bantamweight contest. The most seasoned veteran on the card Rocky Edwards (10-7-1) will meet Que Parks (6-1) in a clash between welterweights.
