Tonight two local Ohio Valley fighters head north to Southgate, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, for WXC 71. The event, Warrior Xtreme Cagefighting: Night of Champions X will be on UFC’s Fight Pass Network.

Muhammad Abdullah (9-3) will take on DeQuan Townsend (18-7) in the main event for the promotion’s professional interim middleweight title. In the co-main event, Dustin Parrish (6-1-1) will take on Troy Lamson (9-2) in a 165-pound catchweight match-up.

Abdullah is a Michigan native and currently resides in Detroit but frequents Ohio for training and calls Vision MMA Dayton his home. “The Hurricane” will be competing in his fifth straight title fight with the hope of adding more gold to his growing collection.

In his last outing, he earned the unanimous decision win over Robert Gidron at Motor City Cage Night. The match-up was for the promotion’s middleweight championship. The win gave Abdullah his second professional title. Majority of Abdullah’s career was spent in the middleweight division, but tonight he drops down a division to take on Townsend.

Aside from the interim title being on the line this particular match-up also pits the #1 and #2 ranked middleweights against one another according to Tapology. The winner will not only claim gold but also place themselves securely at the top of the rankings.

“When I gravitated to fighting it kept me busy, it kept my mind right, it gave me an outlet to express myself,” Abdullah recently said in a radio interview with A List Morning Show. The outspoken Abdullah will look to express himself once more when the cage door closes.

Lansing, Michigan native Townsend recently earned the fifth knockout of his professional career. He stopped UFC and Bellator veteran Hector Urbina in his last outing. Townsend had a productive 2017, stepping into the cage on five separate occasions. He dropped the first two bouts including a decision loss over Jason Fischer for the WXC middleweight title.

The action at WXC 71 kicks off tonight 6 PM at Crystal Gardens in Southgate, Michigan. The event will be available as an on-demand event on UFC Fight Pass and will be viewable next week.
