Knoxville’s Jason King (5-3) kicked off the year in his hometown with a brutal first round knockout win over Steven Haag (3-3) that could be a knockout of the year contender. The welterweight bout headlined Valor Fights 47, which took place at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum on Saturday night.

The classic striker vs. grappler matchup came to a head early on, with King looking to find his range on his feet while Haag tried to get the fight to the ground. When Haag attempted to pull guard, King was able to stay on his feet. They eventually became locked in a clench against the cage, and King fired off two short range right hands that knocked out Haag for the win.

King now has four of his five career wins via knockout or TKO, and the victory over Haag was his second win in his last three outings. For Haag, he’s now dropped two straight.
