VanCamp Brothers eye more hardware at Colosseum Combat 42

Colosseum Combat 42 will not be the first event to feature Indiana’s VanCamp brothers. There are three of them active out in the MMA world but Cameron and Kellen will be fighting together in Kokomo this Saturday. The pair will be fighting a little heavier than normal but both will be seeking to add a Colosseum Combat belt to their resume.

Cameron VanCamp (9-4-1) will meet undefeated Aaron Highbaugh (6-0) for the Colosseum Combat professional welterweight championship. This will be VanCamp’s third straight title fight. He lost a lightweight championship fight for HFC before returning to knock off undefeated Que Parks in Lexington at Hardrock MMA 93 with a first round submission. That win gave him his first professional title, at welterweight.  Highbaugh’s last outing was ended with a second round submission over Daniel Head at Colosseum Combat 39 to win the title he will be defending on Saturday night. . VanCamp has bounced between lightweight and welterweight and will give up some size to Highbaugh.

When talking about weight classes and fighting with his brother the elder VanCamp had this to say,

Kellen and I have been competing in championships our whole lives, so this is nothing new for us. With both of us coming up a weight class people wonder if that will play a factor, but real gangsters don’t care about weight classes. We were born to fight, it’s in our blood and that’s what we are going to do.

Kellen VanCamp (8-0) is eight fights into his amateur career. The 20 year old most recently fought in Idaho and secured a win there. He became the Hardrock MMA champion with a win over Clay Baker in February. He will meet Craig Edmonson (4-1). Strangely, Edmonson’s only loss came at the hands of the third VanCamp brother Kyle. Edmonson has dispatched his last three opponents in the first round with his most recent win being a TKO in less than two minutes back in October.

The pair of title fights are well matched and promoter Mark Slater thinks the professional title bout is a superfight.

It’s a superfight in my opinion. VanCamp is a huge lightweight coming off winning a welterweight title at Hardrock. Highbaugh is undefeated in his pro career coming off a sub win of Daniel Head. This fight is something Indiana Mma needs!

These two title fights are included in a big night of fights. Colosseum Combat returns to the Kokomo Events Center this Saturday, December 2nd. For tickets visit
