Bellator 186 | Ryan Bader vs. Linton Vassell

Bellator 186 went down at the Bryce Jordan Center on the campus of Penn State University on Friday night, and it was a banner evening for both wrestlers and Nittany Lion alums.

In the main event, former NCAA All-American Ryan Bader (24-5) successfully defended his light heavyweight title for the first time with a second round TKO over Linton Vassell (18-6).

In the night’s second title fight, Ilima-Lei Macfarlane (7-0) claimed the promotion’s vacant women’s flyweight crown, topping Emily Ducote (6-3) for a second time with a fifth round submission win.

A pair of former Nittany Lions also were victorious on the main card, with former NCAA champion Phil Davis (18-4) topping Leo Leite (10-1) via unanimous decision, and former three-time NCAA champion Ed Ruth (4-0) advancing his unblemished record with a second round knockout of UFC veteran Chris Dempsey (11-6).

The preliminary card was littered with local Pennsylvania talent, including Pittsburgh area natives Mike Wilkins (8-4) and Dominic Mazzotta (13-2), who both picked up stoppage wins.

Former Ohio University wrestler Tywan Claxton (1-0) made his pro debut, and came away with a knockout of the year candidate for his flying knee over Jonny Bonilla-Bowman (1-1). You can see the video of that below.
