Weekend Preview: HFC 34, Bar Battles, Yankee Lake
This weekend’s event listing is highlighted by a trio of offerings, ranging from the Chicago area all the way down to Tennessee’s tri-cities. Check out your weekend preview below.
Hoosier Fight Club returns to The Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana on Saturday night, as HFC 34 is anchored by a pair of pro title fights. In the main event, Jose “Chepe” Mariscal (6-3) will defend his featherweight title against Michigan native Carl Deaton III (11-3). Mariscal looks to rebound from a loss against Bryce Mitchell at V3 Fights 60 in June. Deaton also comes in off of a loss, as he dropped a bout against Vince Murdock at an FSF event in May.
In the co-feature, Cameron VanCamp (8-3-1) and Austin Hubbard (6-1) will vie for the lightweight title that was left vacant by recent UFC signee Mike Santiago. Indiana’s VanCamp has won three in a row via stoppage and is 6-1 in his last seven outings. Hubbard comes in from Illinois looking for his second crack at a HFC title.
Bar Battles: Cage Fights at the Cowboy
Bar Battles heads to the Electric Cowboy in Johnson City, Tennessee for Cage Fights at the Cowboy on Friday night. The amateur event features a pair of title bouts, including Jordan Ownbey (2-0) facing Lance Abbott (3-3) for the 225-pound title in the main event. In the co-feature, Paco Merris (7-6) will face Greg Hopkins (2-0) for the welterweight title.
Yankee Lake Brawlroom 47
MMA Brawlroom returns with Yankee Lake Brawlroom 47 in Brookfield, Ohio on Saturday night, and the amateur fight card is expected to feature 11 bouts. A bantamweight bout between Dante Penacchio (6-4) and Cory Kemp (3-3) is expected to take place.
Ohio native Chris Curtis (15-5) travels to Canada, where he’ll face Peter Grajcar (5-0) for the welterweight title at Fight Night Medicine Hat 4 on Saturday night.
UFC 215 takes place in Edmonton on Saturday night. Unfortunately, Ray Borg had to pull out of his flyweight title bout main event against Demetrious Johnson, and women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes will now defend her title against Valentina Shevchenko in the new headliner. The fight card airs on PPV.
On Friday night, LFA 22 takes place in Broomfield, Colorado and airs live on AXS TV. In the main event, a pair of undefeated prospects will square off for the middleweight title, as Ian Heinisch faces Markus Perez. The co-main event will feature the retirement bout of UFC veteran Gilbert Smith, as he faces Andy Kapel.
