Billy ‘Mojo’ Horne meets Sidney Wheeler in Hardrock MMA 89 main event

Hardrock MMA 88 takes place this Saturday in Louisville but the main event for the following event has been set as the promotion returns to Turfway Park for their 89th event. Rising star Sidney Wheeler (6-2) will step up to face local star Billy “Mojo” Horne (15-4).

Wheeler snapped a two fight losing streak by defeating Travis Davis in Columbus earlier this year. His early career saw him post wins over Julio Gallegos, Justin Fisher and a tremendous performance over Kendrick Miree. He lost to Gerald Meerschaert, who is now in the UFC and Brendan Allen before bouncing back with a big knockout over Davis in March. Wheeler is a top prospect with a solid skill set which is continuing to evolve. This will be the second fight where he comes in as the away team.

Billy Horne has a great following. His fans are loud and support the 39 year old. He’s given them plenty to cheer about. Horne hasn’t lost since 2011, posting seven straight wins. His last two fights have been in the Hardrock MMA cage and saw him best Anthony Trotter and Michael Cockerham both in the first round. He has dangerous submissions and is highly skilled on the ground.

One would think that whoever wins this fight has to gain some positive attention from a larger company. Horne was impressive in his lone Bellator performance but has not gotten a call back. The clock is ticking for him and this is a perfect fight to get him to the next level. The same could be said for Wheeler. A win over a very experienced Horne could move him into the next tier of fighters and open some bigger doors.

Horne and Wheeler cap off an already solid professional card that includes five other big fights. Hardrock MMA 89 takes place on May 13th at Turfway Park. Stay close to BluegrassMMA for more on this event.
