IT Fight Series 48

IT Fight Series 48 went down in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday night, in front of a large crowd at the Ohio Expo Center.

In the main event, Dan Spohn (14-5) topped Jeff Hughes (6-1) in a back-and-forth battle to claim the IT Fight Series heavyweight title. After many people had the fight even heading into the fifth, Spohn decided to finish it rather than go to the judges’ scorecards, and he did so via TKO in the final round.

Spohn is now 6-1 since his time on “The Ultimate Fighter 19,” with five of his six wins coming via stoppage. After winning the Gladiators of the Cage light heavyweight title earlier this year, this is his second title at heavyweight. The Ronin Training Center product also won the CFFC heavyweight title last year.

It’s the first loss as a pro for Hughes, who had reeled off six straight wins to start his career.

In the co-feature, Jan Finney (10-11) topped Janice Meyer (2-3) via TKO in the second round. Finney has now won three straight bouts after snapping a five-fight winning streak last year.

Brandon Suber (7-5) picked up his third win on the year, as he handed Chico Bays (3-1) the first loss of his career with a knockout in just 91 seconds. His win earned him “Knockout of the Night” honors.

On the amateur side, Anthony Romero (7-1) claimed his third amateur title, as he topped Sean Foster (4-1) in the “Fight of the Night.”

The “Submission of the Night” went to Jake Miller (6-3), who tapped Jordan Dusseau (10-1) with an arm bar in the first round.
