The heavyweight title will be on the line in the main event at IT Fight Series 48, as Dan Spohn (13-5) and Jeff Hughes (6-0) will clash in the main event on Dec. 10 in Columbus, Ohio.
Both fighters come in looking for a chance to take the next step in their respective careers.
Spohn has already had a cup of coffee in the UFC, as the competed at the live finale after appearing as a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter 19 in 2014.
Spohn made a name for himself in the preliminary round, as he blasted Tyler King with a vicious 10-second knockout that was the fastest in the history of the reality show. He eventually made it to the semifinals before coming up short against Patrick Walsh at the TUF 19 Finale.
Since his time on TUF 19, Spohn is 5-1. This will be his second fight in the heavyweight division, as he claimed the CFFC heavyweight title with a second round TKO over Zu Anyanwu last year.
Hughes looks to add another big name win to his resume, as he’s already topped Strikeforce veteran Jason Riley and Bellator MMA veteran John Hawk. Four of his wins have come via stoppage, including three via (T)KO. None have been more memorable than his spinning wheel kick over Riley at Caged Madness 40 in January.
