Ohio could soon have its second UFC champion.

Cody Garbrandt (10-0) is expected to challenge Dominick Cruz (22-1) for the bantamweight title in the co-main event at UFC 207 on Dec. 30.

A Northeast Ohio native, Garbrandt now lives in Sacramento, where he trains with Team Alpha Male under the tutelage of former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber.

“No Love” has been calling for a title shot since knocking out the previously unbeaten Thomas Almeida back in May, but he may have cemented his place at the front of the line with a dominant 48-second finish of veteran Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 202 in August.

Cruz has already started the trash talk for the expected matchup with Garbrandt, taking to Instagram to post images of him defeating Alpha Male fighters Faber and T.J. Dillashaw (who is no longer with the team), and the caption “NEXT.”

UFC 207 will be headlined by the return of former women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, as she challenges Amanda Nunes for the title she lost last November.
