Laying down the Law

Andrew Law (6-4) definitely looked like he was in a fight after his first round submission over Timmy McCavit (4-3) in the main event, but he still came out with the win after locking in a rear naked choke to get the tap. Law has now won two in a row after dropping three straight, and the veteran fighter has said that he wants to stay at welterweight in the future after taking off some time to put on size to compete with the larger fighters.

Dominant Jerrell Hodge

Jerrell Hodge (2-1) put on a dominant showing in his Performance of the Night victory over Tray Taylor (2-5), as both fighters took the fight on short notice and stepped up in the co-main event.

Hodge used his wrestling to completely shut down any offense from Taylor, and the only time that it looked like he was in any danger at all was during a short flurry from Taylor at the beginning of the third. For the other 14 minutes and 30 seconds of the fight, Hodge was in complete control and had Taylor in many dominant positions, including back mount, full mount, and side control. Hodge wasn’t able to sink in the rear naked choke that he was looking for most of the fight, but other than that his performance was solid.

Robinson gets a title shot

It wasn’t easy for Damonte Robinson (4-0), but he earned a lightweight title shot against Jake Miller (4-2) at an upcoming IT Fight Series event in 2016. The Mayanz MMA fighter lost the first round against Sam Cooper (3-1), and one judge even scored it 10-8. But after returning to his corner with Antonio Castillo Jr., he came out looking like a different fighter in the second and third rounds, using his size advantage and some vicious knees to the body to control the rest of the fight.

Robinson vs. Miller should be a fun battle and a great style matchup. Robinson is a big, agressive, athletic fighter while Miller is an underrated athlete with sneaky jiu-jitsu skills.

IT’s easy when they book themselves

Isaac Hook (5-2) dispatched of Aaron Garrett (5-9), but it’s clear that his real target is a man who was in Garrett’s corner in Connor Hina (3-2). The two fighters have squared off in the past in a fight that Hina won via decision, but apparently there’s still some bad blood between the two as Hook called Hina into the cage after the fight and the two squared off.
