Dustin Walden after his win at APEX Fights 5

The Dickie Warren Dome on the Sullivan Central High School Campus in Blountville, Tennessee hosted APEX Fights 5 last night. Headlining the event was a professional middleweight bout between Steven “The Sleeper” Bell (3-4) and Stoney “Skuller” Hale (4-3).

Steve is so explosive and relentless coming after guys,Hale told John Moorehouse in an interview leading up to the fight. “I’m the same way, so I know this has fight of the night all over it.” The hometown fighter was right when he predicted his match-up to be the fight of the night. It took the Team Oxendine fighter less than two minutes to secure a victory in his return bout.

In the amateur division, two titles were on the line but one bout unfortunately ended in a no-contest. Competing for the VALOR Light Heavyweight Championship, Troy Rutledge (3-3) suffered not one but two illegal shots to the groin. Taking the full five minutes after the first illegal shot the fight resumed and as soon as it did, Doug Williams (6-2) connected once again to the groin of Rutledge. It was at this point the referee had no choice but to call the fight as Rutledge was unable to continue after back-to-back shots to the groin.
