The Kokomo, Indiana based organization, announced this week that Andrew Holbrook (8-0) is stepping in for Joe Lile Jr. We reported earlier this month that Lile Jr. would meet Tyler Combs (15-11) in the promotion’s upcoming event. However, it looks like Lile Jr. is now out of the main event as he is preparing for the upcoming Ultimate Fighter tryouts.
The opponent change does come with an added benefit; a title will now be up for grabs. The two will now compete for the vacant lightweight title.
Coming into this fight with a flawless record, Holbrook is on the verge of getting that ever elusive call to the big show. He is on my short-list of regional fighters who is only a few fights away from making their Octagon debut. If the Indy Boxing and Grappling instructor can do what he has done with all of his prior opponents, I expect this to be the last time we see him competing locally.
This month marks the tenth anniversary of Holbrook’s first fight (according to the fighter database). With a win in May, he could finally realize his dreams of fighting on the biggest stage in the world. Of course, he will first have to get past the ever elusive, and always dangerous Combs.
You can see these two in action at Colosseum Combat XXXII on May 2 at the Kokomo National Guard Armory in Kokomo, Indiana. Stay tuned to BluegrassMMA.com for additional information as it becomes available.
