A professional flyweight bout has been set for Turf Wars 20. Alliance MMA’s Eric Moell (5-2) will meet Reed Academy’s Cortez Phelia (1-1) on August 16th. This pits two of the best 125 pounders int the region against each other in a fight that should be exciting for the fans to take in.
The Reed Academy prosepect Phelia started the year off by making his professional debut in Northern Kentucky. He was able to put away Eugene Barrett in the first round. Phelia was scheduled to fight earlier this year for Turf Wars but had difficulty in his weight cut that led to medical issues. He was able to make weight and take a fight just outside of Memphis at Bellator 120 but came up short against a much more experienced professional in Brian Hall. Cortez has a strong background and solid set of teammates that will be helping him prepare for this as he looks to erase the memory of a loss and get on the right side of a .500 record.
Eric Moell hasn’t fought since January of this year. He is the winner of back to back fights at Turfway Park. He was able to lock in a rear naked choke to finish both James Douglas and Austin Apollos. All of the Alliance MMA stars wins have come by way of submission and each one in the first round. Moell took two very tough fights under the XFC banner is looking to get back into the mix on a national level.
