The huge announcement was made today that UFC veteran Luigi Fioravanti (23-11) will make his promotional debut against hometown favorite Luke Zachrich (13-2). They will meet in the main event of the UVC 27 that is set to take place in Columbus, Ohio on February 8th.
We broke the news last week that Zachrich was in fact tapped to compete on this card but at the time no opponent had been named. Well that is no longer as Fioravanti was officially named as his opponent. When the seasoned veteran steps into the cage in February he will only be two months removed from reaching the ten year anniversary of his debut that took place in April 2004. His career has taken him to many countries throughout the world, competing in many great organizations including a stint with UFC.
Fioravanti has not stepped into the UFC octagon since 2009 when he lost a first round stoppage to Anthony Johnson. Since that time his career has been like a roller coaster, mounting winning streaks as well as losing streaks over the course of four years. He comes into this bout against the Columbus native, Zachrich, on a two fight winning streak. His most recent bout came against Kentucky native Josh Thrope this past October where he earned a third round submission victory.
Riding a three fight winning streak, Zachrich will look to extend that very streak in hopes of getting a call back to the big show. He took some time off after his loss against Eric Schambari at Bellator 16 returning late last year. This will be his fourth match here locally since returning to action after the extended break.
This match-up will without a doubt be one that you will not want to miss. Both of these athletes will be putting everything on the line as each one knows a loss on February 8th could be very detrimental to their career. At the very least it would be a huge setback.
This has been the only official match announced so far for the event entitled, UVC 27: You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet. If the name holds true, we know where we will be on that date in February, do you?
