Nashville, Tennessee – In a much anticipated fight between the undefeated Nick Newell (9-0) and XFC main event veteran Eric Reynolds(16-6) in the night cap of Xtreme Fighting Championship 21: Night of Champions II at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium for the XFC Lightweight Championship lived up to the hype and more as emotions ran wild throughout the venue.
Nick proved to be too much for Eric as he was able to slap on a rear-naked choke and that was it for Eric. It only took 00:82 seconds to finish Eric off to become the new XFC Lightweight Champion.
In one final attempt to break the choke Eric who was standing with Nick on his back with the rear-naked locked in deep preceded to fall backwards so that they would land on Nick in hopes of him letting go of the choke. Unfortunately this technique only works half the time and this time around it didn’t go his way; it only locked the choke in deeper forcing Eric to tap out once they landed on the ground.
Once the crowd here inside the venue saw the tap they instantly erupted with cheers as we all witnessed history inside the auditorium. This is the first professional title for the young and very talented Nick Newell who hails from the small suburan town of Milford, Connecticut.
As soon as the referee jumped in to let Nick know that he had won the fight you could almost immediately see the tears of joy start to form around the eyes of Nick. He would come to realize that after so many years of putting hard work into the gym and sacrificing so much of his life to this sport that one of his many dreams had finally come to fruition.
After the fight was over the true champion that Nick is stayed inside the cage for close to 30 minutes if not longer taking pictures and signing autographs with his family, friends, and fans that stuck around to share in his celebration of realizing one of his goals.
