AAMMA 26 Preview: Robert Cooper vs James Benton

Absolute Action MMA 26

Set to battle this weekend for the vacant amateur AAMMA light heavyweight title is Robert Cooper (3-0) and James Benton (4-3). There will three titles up for grabs this weekend with this being one of them.

This will be a fight that I’m sure will be a total war as both fighters have never been to a decision in their careers. With a combined ten fights between them they have all ended by way of submission (7) or KO/TKO (3). I can almost but guarantee this fight will end before the final bell sounds in the fifth round.

Read more as we break down this fight.

Benton who has been absent from the cage for two years now will be stepping up in weight as he battles Cooper. Benton is only 21 years old according to his official MMA.tv profile took the past two years off I’m sure to catch up with life as he had been fighting for a few years prior to that. While he was an active fighter he took a lot of fights in a short period of time however all but one of his seven fights ended in the first round. All of his victories came by way of submission so I imagine his game plan heading into this fight is to take Cooper down to the ground. Benton will look to than use his submission skills and put away Cooper.

Cooper who joined the ranks of MMA late in the game has not let his age stop him from becoming the best he can possibly be. Since stepping into the fight scene Cooper has posted a perfect 3-0 record and looks to continue his undefeated streak this weekend. Cooper in his first two fights was able to finish them in the first round but in his last fight took it all the way to the third round before finishing the fight.

Unlike Benton, Cooper has been able to go the distance practically so one has to wonder will cardio play a role in this fight. Also you have to take into consideration is the long term absence from the cage Benton has had. Will Benton experience ring rust? Has he kept up with his cardio? Being that his is a title fight they will fight five rounds instead of three. So if it does make it into the championship rounds of this fight both fighters will then succumb to new challenges. All questions that will be answered come Saturday night. Cooper is currently ranked #7 in the Bluegrass Rankings but with a victory of Benton could boost his standing, likewise for Cooper.

Remember this Saturday night at Shimmers Hall located in Covington, Kentucky Absolute Action MMA will be live. Be sure to come down to see this match along with the other fighters as they battle each other.
